Another Two Years.
Yesterday, Trump got kicked in the silvery ballsack by the mid-terms. This is sort of good to see. I'm not over-joyed. The mid-terms just mean he's unpopular now. He's still president for another twenty four months. He's been like a Gremlin on the wing of a plane for the last two years - has it really only been two years? It feels like there has never been a time I haven't been forced to listen to this growling, orange clown - Ben Grim cosplaying as Kirk Brandon* - and his Ant Hill Mob of a sweaty inadequates. Always there, always saying the stupidest things, doing the worst, most venal things. Just two years. And another two years to go, two years of this shit-smeared toddler lashing out at things. He's wounded now. He knows he's unpopular. Two years of King Kong clinging to the Empire State, swatting at bi-planes.
Who knows what further damage he can do to the world? People say the democrats are no better. That the US is a single party state with two heads. And its true, there's a not a lot to choose between professional politicians of either stripe, as there isn't between the pragmatic, some would say cynical, wings of Labour and the Tories. But if you've got two sets of gangsters taking over your neighbourhood and one set is professional, expedient, and looking to maintain the infrastructure of the town they now own, and the other is a gonzo outfit of bugsy lunatics, randomly selling off bits of the neighbourhood, setting fire to property, disappearing people, stealing from those they'd promised to protect, and forming alliances with other, equally insane, gangster gangs from other neighbourhoods, well, its the first lot, isn't it? They're still both gangsters, but if you're going to have gangsters at least have professionals.
That's the best we can hope for. In the future, the gangsters who run the place only kill their own and tip their hats to local grannies.
A lot of people were very happy with the midterms, and, at the very least, its an indication that the mania that brought him into the White House is subsiding. I know a lot of Americans, and they've been in despair for a couple of years. These look like the bright shoots of something like hope.
But he's got another two years, and if he's not the most dangerous man on the planet, he's the most unpredictable.
I bought a DVD of On The Beach this week. In an unrelated note.
*Cool references John. Really now!
