Short Stories

I've been writing two separate books of short stories.

One is called No Light In the Trees. It's my odd stories. I'll clarify. All of my stories are odd, on a number of levels. One day I'll get into why I think this. These ones, though, are, perhaps, more properly, my strange stories, to use the Aickman descriptor. I would hesitate to call them horror stories, as I'm not sure they operate completely as horror stories. Not quite. They're just...odd. Nasty, some of them. Contes cruels. My cold stories.

But there's also one about a wayward penoplasty. Something for everyone, then.

There are 17 of those. Some 234 pages of Word document. Approximately 70, 000 words.

The other book is called, at the moment, The Devil in Music. They're stories inspired by music on some level. It could be an individual song, or a band. In some cases, it's about the invention of music, or how music can make you feel. A couple of them feature actual musicians, though mostly they're disguised in some manner. Feebly disguised. I want you to know who they are. Quite a few of the stories are funny. Several are really not. There are 20 of those stories. 183 pages of Word. 51, 000 words. Though I may add a title story to this one, as it's a good title.

121, 000 words all told. Two novels worth. Just lying idly around the house.

I should probably try and get them published. They're rather good.

I've just checked. There are at least two books already called The Devil in Music. One is about the tritone and looks quite good. The other looks like a sexy bodice ripper, which is less my cup of tea. I may have to change the title again.
