The End of The Blues Brothers

The American election has happened and keeps happening in the same way that a multiple car pile up happens and keeps happening. Its a close call and at this point Biden is winning. But I doubt he'll win. I am the optimist of small things but in my experience of world events the opposite of what I want to happen is what happens. See Brexit, for example. Or every British election in the past twenty years. Historically I'm on the losing side of history. So I can't see any other outcome in this boiling mess than a Trump victory.

Trump is a strange poster boy for the American Dream: a grotesque parody of an American businessman, someone who lived his life by the values of the film Wall Street until he saw American Psycho. A man who strongly resembles the pigs turned bosses at the end of Animal Farm. A spoilt philistine vulgarian know-nothing, a rapist, a bankrupt, a thief, and a bully who is directly responsible for more American deaths than the Vietnam war. But hey, that's what they want. That's what they like. Because FREEDOM and fuck you, buddy. 

At this point in the election Trump is losing. So he's told people the election is a fraud, that they should stop counting the votes and that he's already won, all classic moves from the Trump playbook. The results unless he wins are FAKE NEWS, democracy is a busted flush. Donald is the chosen one. He is the elect. 

In fact he is the Antichrist. I don't mean a Biblical Book of Revelations Antichrist, nothing so fancy. Its just that everything that Jesus, a Jewish, Middle-Eastern, socialist radical, said and did is the exact opposite of what Donald says and does. He's a racist pig who sows division throughout the nation he elects to lead and he worships only money and loves only himself. The fact that American Evangelical Christians are one of his largest demographic groups tells you more about the twisted version of Christianity enacted in America than it does about the teachings of a poverty stricken Rabbinic scholar from 2000 years ago. Standing there holding up a Bible in a war zone of your own making doesn't quite cut it, Don. 

Trump is barely human, never mind a viable leader of a nation and yet...I wrote some sketches for the satirical animation series Zoomlanders about the election. They were short monologues to be released on the day the results were finalised. I wrote three and they all featured Donald Trump. Trump as winner or Trump as loser or Trump as bunker suicide. Biden was nowhere...

I hope that was just a lack of imagination on my part. But I don't think Biden is going to win this. Perhaps the last four years of degradation on both sides of the Atlantic has drizzled on my sunny outlook. You know I don't think Biden is all that either but he's got to be better than that monster. He has some SHAME. But I don't think he'll win. 

I really hope I'm wrong.
